Cheap and fun entertainment is getting hard to find but there is one kind of entertainment that young and old can enjoy that’s not only cheap it’s a whole lot of fun and it’s called Karaoke. In fact the popular trend of karaoke is growing at a rate that’s faster than almost any other form of entertainment.

Do you love to dance but want to try something new? Have you fantasized about what it would be like to be a singer? Do your kids love to sing? Maybe you find yourself always singing or humming to the radio. Heck maybe you’ve never sung a note ever. It doesn’t really matter, but what does matter is that the popular trend of karaoke is growing at a very rapid rate, which means the availability for karaoke machines, tapes, and accessories is growing as well.

If you don’t want to invest in a karaoke machine why not consider karaoke software for your computer. Karaoke is a mix of your live vocal part with accompaniment on a CD and words across the screen. The karaoke machine mixes vocals with live singing through a microphone blending melody and voice.

Karaoke is great fun with the kids, or the perfect entertainment for a party with friends. There is music for all age groups as well as equipment for every age. It wasn’t that long ago that the only place you could enjoy some good karaoke was at a nightclub or karaoke bar. Not any more now that it’s catching on with all age groups.

Singing is fun but it’s also relaxing. How many times have you been singing along to the radio and suddenly your cares are gone. Your mind can have a time out while you enjoy some fun sing time. Karaoke isn’t about being a professional singer. Heck it isn’t even about being able to sing. It’s about fun!

You can find all kinds of karaoke singing tips online. But here’s our tip – just feel the need to sing. Then find songs you love to listen to and even hum along to. Next, go searching online for some terrific karaoke CD’s, equipment, and accessories.

If you like country music, choose from hits of today or hits of yesteryear. Perhaps you like Broadway, or maybe Latin is your idea of a great time singing. Or maybe you’d prefer some of today’s hits. What ever your favorite type of music, there’s definitely CD’s available. Watch for clearance sales and you can really save a bundle, although regular price is still really reasonable.

If your kids are going to go karaoke there’s also lots of choices there. For younger children there are songs that are age appropriate and believe me your children are going to have a blast, even from as young as three or four. For the older children there is music that they love too. So karaoke is entertainment all ages can enjoy. Why not make it a family a night?

The popular trend of karaoke shows no sign of diminishing. If you haven’t already tried it why not give karaoke a try and see what you are missing.

As a voice teacher-coach for over 40 years, I’ve often been contacted by singers throughout the country, asking for advice in finding a good voice teacher. Every little town has teachers who sang some opera or Broadway at sometime in their past, and now have set up shop as teachers. But all too often they have no experience with, or appreciation of the genres of music many singers love to sing. Here are some guidelines for locating the right teacher for you.

1. Take a session with a teacher (many offer free first sessions). During that session listen carefully and ask such questions as: “I love to sing punk (or metal or country, etc). What is your opinion about that?” If they even hint at wanting to change you from what you love to sing to what THEY feel you should be singing, DON’T GO BACK. It’s your voice and you know what you want to sing. The job of a good voice teacher is to help you become better and better at what you already sing, not to change you.

2. A session with a teacher will also tell you their approach to teaching. If you don’t respond well to a strict authoritative demanding teacher, that isn’t going to change, and you probably won’t improve nearly as well as when you work with a teacher who puts you at ease, is knowledgeable and doesn’t yell. On the other hand, if you’ve always responded well to strict discipline and heavy handed teachers you’ll know if this is the right one for you. You must be able to trust and feel comfortable with the teacher. You’re purchasing their services. Be very choosy. Just because many singers recommended this person doesn’t necessarily mean they are right for you.

3. Ask around. Visit some clubs and when you hear a singer you like a lot ask them if they study and with whom. If they don’t study, perhaps they are familiar with a teacher in the area who comes well recommended. Don’t rely on credentials alone to influence your choice. Some of the worst teachers for pop and rock singers are professors at major universities. The same goes for the teacher who is known for working with all classical or opera singers. They may be great teachers, but they probably won’t be great for you.

4. Don’t pick a teacher just because they charge less. You’re better off taking 8 sessions with the right teacher who also charges $100. a session than you are wasting time on 50 sessions with a less qualified teacher. if your budget demands, take 4-8 sessions and drop out for a few weeks to regroup financially. Discuss this with the teacher. Consider this: the guitar or keyboard or drum player in a band is constantly investing in new and better equipment. Lessons are your investment in your equipment.

All too often there just isn’t a qualified voice teacher in many areas and towns. So what to do? You should consider downloading my SINGER’S BIBLE, a power-packed 9 session course in singing, created for pop, rock, Broadway and country singers. (Some great stuff for classical singers also) My concepts and techniques are both time-tested and modern, and geared to singers of today’s music.

Like doctors, all voice teachers are not qualified to teach you. Make the right choice and save much money and a lot of wasted time.

Karaoke is not just about hanging out at your local bar and casually—or drunkenly—singing song lyrics in front of an easygoing crowd anymore. It’s about competition. It’s about winning. It’s about prizes, trophies and money. Karaoke contests have become as popular as karaoke, itself.

Most karaoke contests have Best Male, Best Female and Best Duet categories for singers who can wow a panel of judges with their vocal prowess and knowledge of lyrics. But in a karaoke contest, you can’t just impulsively jump onstage, grab the microphone, hit a few sour notes, botch the lyrics and score points for making the audience laugh. This is no longer a game. Singing the lyrics to prerecorded music is now showbiz, baby!

And in showbiz, it’s about putting on an entire show. It’s not only about singing a song and acing its lyrics. It’s about your entire performance. The song you chose is the heart of that performance, though. So select a song you like and thoroughly know, with lyrics you could sing in your sleep. But no matter how much you like a song, skip it if it’s out of your vocal range, or if its lyrics trip up your tongue.

Make sure the song and its lyrics suit your voice. If your voice has a twang, go for a country song, not Queen’s “Bohemian Rhapsody.” Is your voice gravelly? Maybe a Rod Stewart tune would be best for you. Do you have range and power? A Broadway show tune, with its dramatic melody and lyrics, might be a good choice.

Your song and its lyrics should be familiar to the audience, because their participation in your performance can score points for you. Even if you love an 18th century Irish folk song, and can sing its music and lyrics beautifully, force yourself to pick something more mainstream.

Dress like a star! Don’t just throw on torn jeans and a t-shirt you’ve pulled out of the hamper. Put on a cowboy hat, fringed vest, and cowboy boots if your song has country music and lyrics. Wear a tux or gown if you’re crooning a classic. Dress in leather if you’ll be roaring heavy metal, or like Elvis if you’ll be singing one of his numbers.

Before the performance, steer clear of alcohol. If you’re nervous, soak in a hot bath, or meditate to ease the tension. And never eat a big meal before you sing. Nobody wants anything other than a melody and lyrics coming out of your mouth while you’re onstage!

Have fun, make eye contact with the audience and judges, and work the stage. That doesn’t mean you need to breathe fire like Gene Simmons, or have a slew of choreographed dancers in tow, like Madonna. It means move around. Use gestures and body language that illustrate the lyrics, without getting corny. Bring the song and its lyrics to life.

If you don’t win, be gracious and professional. You’re not in a position to be a diva yet. And if you do win, it may just give you the confidence to pick another song, practice singing its lyrics, and take a shot at entering another karaoke contest!

There are so many wonderful things to do and see in New York City. It’s hard to imagine that in a lifetime someone could possibly manage to get to them all. The problem is that many of them sound like so much fun it’s hard to choose between the men and select the few. The best solution for me is to stick with things that can’t be done at home. Playing in parks for the most part can be done at home. While none of our parks compare to the many available here, it can still be done at home without traveling thousands of miles in order to do so.

The same can be said for watching movies, fishing, hiking, riding bikes, and roller-blading. While getting exercise is great, there will be plenty of walking while in New York and I can actually roller blade when I get home, right? But if you like doing those things, why on earth would you deprive yourself of doing them simply because the locale has changed? If anything you will have a new shot of scenery to enjoy, new sights and sounds, and perhaps you can get your family, up, out, and active right along with you.

In addition to the physical activities there are so many wonderful shows that can be seen on and off Broadway, there are also some wonderful opportunities to dance yourself as well as to watch others dancing. You can make music and listen to the beautiful sounds that others have made. You also have the wonderful and unique ability to choose from so many bookstore and antique shops. There are literally thousands of things you can choose to do and see within the course of a day in New York City, many of them free and some of them are actually freeing.

It is so important that we remember when vacationing what the actual purpose of a vacation is-to renew ourselves in our commitments to our families, our mates, and our work. In doing this we are supposed to come back refreshed and renewed ready to face the challenges that await us. Find something freeing to do while on vacation. Let your hair down and enjoy the ability to dance without worrying about who might see. Sing karaoke in a tavern, act silly with your kids and go walking barefoot on the beach with flowers in your hair. Remember what it was like to be young and have fun for the sake of having fun and most importantly, remember how to smile.

Your New York Vacation should remind you, if nothing else how fleeting life is. The skyline of this great city has forever been changed and that is something we can never forget, it is not something we need to dwell on, but it is something that should really make us think when we remember it. We should seize each moment with our friends and families for the opportunity it is to not only be blessed but also to be a blessing in return.
Use your vacation as an opportunity to read to your children, sing to your mate, hold hands in the rain, and fall in love with each other all over again. Be romantic and sweet and hold the door open for him. Be silly and make up rhyming songs and tell your children often just how much you are enjoying playing with them and remember all of these things when you return home. That is when you will find that you are truly blessed.

Night-time in Puerto Vallarta can be absolutely stunning, especially when the weather cooperates. The shimmering sunlight of daytime gives way to an entirely different kind of energy after sunset. The city seems to dress for the occasion: the breeze caresses you face as you walk along the Malecón; twinkle lights glitter around the zocalo. The evening is calling, so put on some real clothes and step out of your <a rel="external nofollow" target="_blank” href=”http://www.villaencantada.com/”>Puerto Vallarta Vacation rental for an after-hours adventure.

Okay, you’re not the type who enjoys clubbing, and you wouldn’t be caught dead with a karaoke mike in your hands. You can stop hyperventilating . . . there are plenty of ways you can use your energy and ambition (or lack thereof) under the light of the moon, the silvery moon, to enjoy some great singing and dancing.

A fine act to follow
Do you like theater? While it might not be at the top of everyone’s list, Puerto Vallarta is home to two theatres that offer delightful entertainment. The students and staff at Centro Universitario de al Costa have a lot going on, and some of it happens in the evening. You can check the school’s website, if your Spanish reading skills are up to speed, or you can look for theater and film events in the local newspapers.

The Santa Barbara Theater, at Olas Altas 351, features productions of English-language musicals during the winter season. For an additional charge, you can make it a dinner theater experience. This is a local theater group, not quite ready for a Broadway opening, which does nothing to diminish the entertainment quotient.

For love of the dance
Another winter favorite (late October through April) is the Old Town artWalk. A number of different galleries in Old Town stay open from 6 p.m. to 10 p.m., enticing visitors to come in by tempting them with tapas and beverages. This is your chance to enjoy colorful folk art, beautiful pieces in glass and ceramic, and lovely art jewelry while you totally ignore that “No food or beverages” rule.

And there is simply no way you can say “no” to the vivid colors, brilliant music and electric vitality of the Grupo Folklórico Municipal Xiutla. The young people who dance with this group have been around the world performing, and they are frequently found flashing their heels somewhere in Puerto Vallarta. So put on your glad rags and head out the door; you’ll present a dashing picture when you depart your Puerto Vallarta Vacation Rental for a night of arts in the dark.
